The Chin Na program, which is incorporated into the Kung Fu program, emphasizes the training of Chin Na or controlling techniques. There are several types of controlling methods such as wrist, neck, shoulder, elbow and even leg controlling techniques. The student will first learn several techniques to become familiar with the smooth movements and learn how easy it is to cause an opponent pain. This is important so one learns how NOT to hurt a training partner. Eventually the student begins a choreographed fighting form using Chin Na applications from real situations such as grabbing, punching; etc. Here the student also trains stepping coordination, smoothness of movement and sensitivity to an opponent's movement. One section of the form emphasizes bare hand to knife techniques.
In addition to training in these applications, the use of counter-attacks is emphasized so the student learns not only how to avoid being controlled, but also how to counter an opponent's attempt of control. There are also counters to the counter-attack and so on...
Just as with the Push Hands class, sensitivity and smoothness are emphasized and trained so the student will eventually be able to react naturally and instinctively to any given opponent.
